The oldest house in the Fan
Harry Kollatz Jr. profiles The Columbia House at 1142 West Grace Street in the Jan/Feb issue of R Home Magazine. A former Civil War hospital and one of the buildings of the original College of Richmond, the house was built in 1816/1817 by Philip Haxall, one of Richmond’s early business giants. Burglars targeted several homes in The Fan and Museum District over the holidays. Homes on Grove, Grace, Main, Monument and Parkwood Avenue were all hit in the last few days. These burglars were mainly looking for electronics but actually stole food from one of these apartments. Original Article
