Almost 30 plants stolen from front porch

nbc12 is reporting a massive plant theft:

Thieves, armed with green thumbs, are on the run after they stole two dozen potted plants from a Richmond man’s front porch. It happened at a home on West Cary Street near Mulberry Street.

Chris Morano says he woke up Friday morning and what he found was shocking. Half of his front-porch garden was gone. Almost 30 plants, totaling around $150, were stolen.

A quick look at Dinamo

The new Dinamo (pronounced dì-na-mo) in the old 821 Bakery space on Cary Street at the edge of Oregon Hill has been open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner for a few weeks now. The cozy retro-Futurism inspired spot by Ed Vasaio, Brad Wein, and Mya Anitai brings something new to Richmond, and feels like it’s been here for decades.

Missing an older dog?

We found an older male (neutered) shepherd mix wandering around the cary street/vine area. The dog appeared to either have bad hips or have been hit by a car. The dog did not have a collar and weighed around 60-70 pounds. We took the dog to the Veterinary Emergency and Specialty Center on Cary street around 11:45 PM. The dog will be treated and will be picked up by animal control in the morning. Please contact the VESC if this is your dog.

Tornado (1951)

Trevor Dickerson shares a neat connection to tornado hit Richmond in June of 1951:

I remember my late grandma telling me a story once of a terrible windstorm or tornado coming through Byrd Park where she lived a long, long time ago, and I figured out this must have been it based on the map of the twister (below) that had it crossing the James River just south of Byrd Park, and then ripping into The Fan and going straight down Cary Street between Meadow Street and turning towards Monroe Park near the VCU campus.

Dinamo is open for business

Dinamo reportedly opened its doors yesterday. The new restaurant–allegedly from partners Ed Vasaio and Brad Wein (Mama Zu’s/Edo’s Squid)–is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, according to a very busy waitress during this afternoon’s lunchtime rush.

No word yet on firm hours of operation, but there should be more information in a couple of days.

Dinamo is located at 821 W. Cary Street.
