Community Conversation – Discussing Richmond in the 2000s
Valentine Richmond History Center, 1015 E. Clay Street, Richmond, VA 23219
Thursday, May 9, 2013 6:00 pm until 8:00 pmThis is the third iteration of the “Community Conversations” series. The purpose of the series is to engage the community in a dialogue about the region’s past and how that past can positively shape our collective future. The more people that join in the conversation, the more productive our efforts become, and the easier it will be for everyone to see ourselves in the history of the region.

Ed Trask is back with a new solo exhibit firing up in a few weeks at glave kocen gallery.
The Great Escape
May 3-June 8
opening reception May 3 6-9PM
From painting murals all over the world, playing drums for the loosely reunited Kepone, firing up the RVA Street Art Festival and of course painting for this exhibit, it’s no wonder Ed chose this theme! Through his own wants & desires, Trask has crafted an exhibit that speaks to all of our wanderlust and basic need for Solace. With multiple narrative paintings including a Baptismal scene, A Freight Train Traveller, and a painting called, “Sign of the Times” which is a classic Ed Trask take on and old roadside sign with a Red Tailed Hawk majestically perched on top. Nature and Trains always play a big part of what Ed tends to focus on but maybe this show lets a little light on as to why he gravitates toward these subjects?

You can get basic peanut butter — creamy and crunchy — or you can try flavors like double chocolate chunk, hazelnut amaretto, white chocolate macadamia or one of the most popular varieties, Cashew Nilla cashew butter.
Richmond retailers Ellwood Thompson’s Local Market, Fresh Market and Whole Foods Market stock the locally sourced spread, and its ingredient list is refreshingly uncomplicated, making it a favorite of health nuts — pun intended — and locavores alike.

The parking restrictions first reported in late December (green on the above map)(and listed on the FDA site) have apparently been expanded. A flyer being shared details an expansion of the 1-hour-only zone to include more of Park Avenue, Hanover Avenue, and a section of Harvie Street (red on the map above).

In the next of what has become a neat series of re-evauating some of Richmond’s more established restauraunts (Ipanema, Bamboo, Rowland), Dana Craig revisits Balliceaux and appreciates what they’ve become:
Inundated with constant raves from a co-worker, I was coaxed into trying Balliceaux’s winter menu after learning about the recent arrival of new executive chef Michael McClure (formerly of Bistro Bobette, Chez Max and La Grotta). […]
A restaurant outfitted with such exacting class needs more than cocktails to remain relevant in my mind, so I’m happy to see chef McClure raising the bar and giving Balliceaux’s menu the classic touch it has needed.
